Conagra Brands Continues to Thrive in Downtown Omaha
Conagra Brands, maker of iconic brands such as Healthy Choice, Birds Eye, Slim Jim, Orville Redenbacher’s, Duncan Hines and many others, has called the Omaha/Council Bluffs area home since soon after it was founded in 1919. Today, the Omaha office continues to be its largest with approximately 1,300 employees located in downtown Omaha. The campus is located next to The Mercantile, with idyllic views of the lake and pedestrian paths that provide easy access to Heartland of America Park at the Riverfront. Conagra also has a food production facility in Council Bluffs, which includes 800 employees making frozen meals for brands such as Healthy Choice, Marie Callender’s, Birds Eye and Banquet.
Conagra’s Omaha-based employees are essential to the success of the company as they serve customers and consumers through critical functions, including Supply Chain, Research & Development, Culinary, Food Quality, Consumer Affairs, IT, Finance, HR, and Communications.
“I’ve been part of Conagra for 20 years and can undoubtedly say that our teams take a great deal of pride in the impact we have for customers, consumers and this community,” said Craig Weiss, senior vice president of Conagra’s supply chain organization and board member for the Omaha Chamber of Commerce. “We realize the important role we play here and are pleased to support our community through jobs, volunteerism, employee giving, scholarships and corporate support for key initiatives in Omaha and Council Bluffs.”
Conagra serves as a leader of the Shine the Light on Hunger Campaign, which, over the last 17 years, has raised millions of meals for Food Bank of the Heartland. In 2023, Conagra employees in Omaha and Council Bluffs contributed nearly $200,000 and volunteered over 4,700 hours to support numerous local nonprofits, including United Way of the Midlands. Conagra also plays an instrumental role with the Aksarben Foundation Nebraska Tech Collaborative to build and retain technology talent in Nebraska.
“Conagra is one of North America’s leading branded food companies and much of our success is due to our people right here in Omaha,” said Tracy Schaefer, Chief Information Officer, who was born and raised in Omaha and has been with Conagra for 22 years. “There really isn’t a better place to develop as a professional. We have an amazing culture that encourages people to build rewarding careers in a high-energy and collaborative environment.”
