Omaha, Neb., August 20, 2020 – The Greater Omaha Chamber today announced Monthly Economic Indicators (MEI) for June 2020, with single-family construction permits, valued at $48.1 million, up 6 percent over June 2019.
Private hourly wages were also up over this time last year. In June 2019, average private hourly wages in Greater Omaha were $27.87, compared to $29.24 in June 2020 – a jump of more than a dollar-an-hour.
While growth was reported in some sectors, other categories, such as “unemployment,” were less optimistic, with unemployment rising “from 6.3 percent to 8 percent in June, which is above Nebraska’s (6.9 percent), but below the U.S. (11.2 percent),” according to the report.
Although, the report noted an uptick in unemployment, the analysis also pointed out, “Omaha has seen an increase of approximately 9,200 net jobs compared to May 2020. The industries that saw the largest increase in jobs were trade, transportation, and utilities (+3,800 jobs) and leisure and hospitality (+3,100 jobs).”
