Hundreds of Greater Omaha high school students experienced Manufacturing Day 2017 last month thanks to collaborative programming provided by The Greater Omaha Chamber’s Economic Development Partnership and the Partnership’s Manufacturing Council.
“Manufacturing career opportunities in Nebraska are trending upward, which is very, very exciting. We have a responsibility to equip our next generation of workers to meet the needs of the region’s many innovative, fast-moving manufacturers,” said Sean Johnson, senior director – business development.
Local student engagements coincided with a national Manufacturing Day celebration, featuring more than 2600 opportunities to “inspire the next generation of manufacturers.” Nebraska is home to nearly 2000 manufacturers, accounting for 12 percent of the state’s workforce. In Iowa, 13.6 percent of the state’s workforce is owed to manufacturing.
