Economic Outlook Luncheon 2019

We put a tremendous amount of thought, each year, into choosing the keynote speaker for our annual Economic Outlook Luncheon, a chance for us to share and think about “big ideas” related to economic growth in Greater Omaha. We want compelling; we want thought-provoking; we want national-renowned – and this year, we’re thrilled to welcome someone who checks all the boxes: Amy Liu.

A thought leader on economic development, prosperity and regional competitiveness, Amy is vice president and director of the Metropolitan Policy Program at Brookings and the Adeline M. and Alfred I. Johnson Chair in Urban and Metropolitan Policy. She frequently writes about inclusive economic growth, the fortunes of mid-sized cities and small towns, and the intersection of economic, workforce, and community development policies. Her recently-authored “Remaking Economic Development: The Markets and Civics of Continuous Growth and Prosperity” makes the case that leaders must adopt a broader vision of economic development that can deliver growth, prosperity and inclusion for all residents.

“Amy has a well-deserved reputation as a national expert on cities and metropolitan areas who is able to translate that research and insight to action on the ground,” says David G. Brown, the Chamber’s president and CEO.

During our time together on Nov. 19, Amy’s going to challenge us to think more broadly about community prosperity and inclusive economic growth, outline the principles necessary for success, and discuss the challenges and opportunities ahead for our region – all while pulling in lessons from other regions.

As usual, we’ll be pairing these future-focused “big thinking” topics with more-traditional economic insight and forecasting, including information on regional trends from the Federal Reserve Bank of Kansas City and, for that local-level view, the always-anticipated results of our annual Economic Outlook Survey.

“The value of our annual Economic Outlook comes from the information that’s shared,” Brown says. “We want you to take it in and apply it to help your business grow.”

We look forward to seeing you there.
