The employees at Robert’s Nursery, Landscapes & Lawns are big fans of the “before and after” – the once weed-filled lawn that’s now a lush green or the formerly ragged backyard that’s now a staycation paradise with a fire pit, water feature and patio.

“That’s why we do what we do. This is what drives us,” said Owner Robert Kozol.

Robert’s Nursery, Landscapes & Lawns has been growing and evolving ever since Kozol launched the company as a young entrepreneur in junior high. There are now two locations in Omaha with one clear mission: “To exceed the expectations of our clients.”

Providing an Excellent Customer Experience

“Robert’s employees are well-trained in all aspects of top-notch customer care. It starts with fostering the spirit of putting the customer first. From the time they contact us, we want our customers to know we’re here to give them the best service and products so they can enjoy their landscapes for years to come,” Kozol said. “Building long-term customer relations is something we take a lot of pride in.”

Empowering Employees and Creating a Culture in which They Can Grow and Succeed

“We feel that empowering our employees and ensuring their success in both business and family life is essential to keeping great employees. It all starts with good training to ensure we don’t set anyone up for failure. We meet with employees regularly, sometimes daily, to ensure all questions are answered and any issues are resolved immediately,” Kozol said. “We believe all employees have a sense of family with us and know we care for each other. That’s a huge part of growth and success.”

Best Practice Tip

“Be ready to constantly evolve, yet remain steadfast in those areas that are your core strengths,” Kozol said. “As you grow and expand, be ready for management style changes. Don’t be afraid to tweak your system as needed. There are truly times when you will need to ‘tuck-n-roll,’ but just keep going.”

The Value of Chamber Involvement

“As a member of the Greater Omaha Chamber, companies must live up to a standard,” Kozol said. “It’s a standard of being an involved community member, a standard of being committed to other businesses in the Omaha area, a standard of the best quality of work and service to live up to, a standard of providing good value in a company’s work, a standard of rules to be followed and ethics to live up to.”

 Impacting the Community

“There is nothing quite like giving back to the community,” Kozol said. “Each year, we set aside a certain portion to donate to various events. We’re members of the North Omaha Community Club, which allows us to be active in the surrounding neighborhood. Last season, we had the opportunity to teach the children at Legacy School how to plant a tree. Our involvement with the local Boy and Girl Scouts also lets us help children in the community. We’ve found that donations of our time and products help us to know our friends, community and clients while they get to know us as well.”
