Leveraging My Influence

The Fifth Annual Conference on Opportunity, Diversity and Equity is excited to offer attendees an expanded two-day experience on Oct. 1 and 2. The Omaha Chamber will continue to drive individual and organization change through dynamic and thought-provoking educational sessions and intentional time to build relationships at The Conference.

This year’s theme is Mirrors and Windows: Looking BeyondThe theme encapsulates the notion of introspection and exploration, urging participants to examine themselves and their surroundings reflectively while simultaneously fostering a curiosity to explore beyond the familiar. 

Mirrors symbolize self-reflection, encouraging attendees to gain deeper insights into their strengths, weaknesses, values, and aspirations and explore how these principles manifest in their journey through diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging. 

Windows symbolizes opportunities for exploration and discovery, inviting attendees to look beyond their immediate surroundings, embrace diversity, and seek new perspectives. By looking through these metaphorical windows, participants can expand their horizons, challenge preconceptions, and understand different cultures.

    Rachael Breck is the senior director of talent management at Gallup. She leads Gallup’s global talent consulting division, which includes client-facing CliftonStrengths® coaches and talent analysts, helping Gallup’s clients select and coach their top talent for top performance. Rachael also leads Gallup’s global talent resources team, focusing on recruiting and hiring strategies in selecting associates who bring their talent to Gallup. Rachael is passionate about building thriving teams internally at Gallup and with our global clients across industries. She is responsible for the strategy, delivery and alignment of resources for Gallup’s Hiring Analytics practice. She brings teams together and plans for the future by optimizing processes to drive excellence. Rachael has extensive expertise in people and process management and working with associates across various roles and levels of experience. She has a master’s degree in management from Bellevue University and bachelor’s degrees in finance and economics from the University of Nebraska–Lincoln.

    Dr. Helen Fagan

    As an immigrant from Iran, Dr. Fagan has first hand experience with being stereotyped.  As the head of Diversity and Cultural Competence at Bryan Health from 1999-2008, she has first hand experience with the herculean efforts involved in creating inclusive organizations. As a researcher and professor, she has first hand experience with teaching and researching what it takes to develop an inclusive mindset.  As a consultant and executive coach she’d guided others on their journey.

    Samantha Guenter

    Samantha Guenter

    Sam has a passion for leadership development and inclusion. This has guided her work within consulting and talent solutions through building diverse teams, strategizing solutions to complex problems, and developing others. She has earned her Master’s degree in Leadership Education, as well as co-authored research on inclusive leadership published in the Journal of Leadership Education in 2022. In 2023, she and her team launched the Becoming Inclusive Journey, a twelve-month inclusive leader development process for strengthening emotional intelligence and the attributes of inclusive leaders. She leans into this work alongside Dr. Helen Fagan for the simple reason: Because People Matter.

     

    Dr. Bridget Keegan

    Dean of Arts and Sciences and Professor of English at Creighton University. A champion for the transformational power of the liberal arts, Bridget has led efforts to improve student success, develop innovative, Interdisciplinary curriculum, and support faculty and student research.  She serves on the national board of Phi Beta Kappa, is a member of the Executive Committee of the board of ACAD (American Council of Academic Deans) and editor of the ACAD Leader and serves locally on the board of Marian High School.

    Dr. Erika Kirby

    Professor of Communication Studies and the A.F. Jacobson Chair in Communication at Creighton University. She is an advocate for inclusivity and belonging in higher education, organizations, and society. She studies and publishes in the areas of diversity|equity|inclusion|belonging, the intersections of working and personal life, and social change. She teaches courses on race, social justice, organizations, and communication and has trained and facilitated for numerous organizations on these topics. She also teaches Jazzercise and is a proud parent to Meredith and Sam. 

    Elizebeth Murphy

    Elizebeth guides strategy and creative direction for communications initiatives that activate audiences and improve local communities. With deep experience in a variety of collaborative environments, she defines brand strategies and helps shape conversations – building energy and enthusiasm around important community-wide efforts. Since founding Emspace (now Emspace + Lovgren) in 1992, Elizebeth has developed expertise in serving nonprofit and government clients and is adept at leveraging resources and networks to produce award-winning communications for E+L clients. 

    Andrea Joy Pearson

    Andrea Joy Pearson is a nationally recognized Belonging and Inclusion strategist, Creative Producer, Speaker, and Host who is committed to helping herself and others walk in their power and utilize their space to live more full and successful lives. She is a healer who uses sound to champion honesty, vulnerability, and courage to foster high performance in work and life by reframing possibilities and perceived boundaries. Her body of work demonstrates that BELONGING thrives in action today!

    As the founder of Joy Brings Light, Andrea Joy advocates for the cultivation of spaces where everyone feels they have the opportunity to bring their best and most authentic selves to the table. She specializes in Sound and Meditation facilitation, Leadership and Community Development, and Motivational Speaking.

    Robbie Quiñones

    Robbie Quinones

    Robbie Quiñones, Director of Culture and Sustainability, joined Inclusive Communities in October 2017. She earned a Bachelor of Science in Education and Master of Arts in Leadership. Robbie has 16 years’ experience in HR and a strong background in coaching for leadership, team building, and is certified in both DiSC and Psychological Safety. She has also enjoyed her experience as a government contractor and local minority business and franchise owner.

    Robbie focuses on leadership development through the lens of emotional intelligence, strengthening organizational culture, building work infrastructure to reward vulnerability, managing imbalance through self-care, and valuing creative abrasion.

    Dr. Claudia Schabel

    Claudia Schabel, Iowa SHRM State Council Director of Diversity, is the President and CEO of Schabel Solutions Inc. Her approach as a sought-after diversity, equity and inclusion consultant combines over 20 years of DEI and human resources practitioner experience, largely with Fortune 100 and Fortune 500 companies, with her international, multicultural background. Her expertise and background positions her to offer impactful consulting, training and coaching services in the areas of DEI and cultural competency.

    Pernell Toney

    Director of Recruiting at Creighton University, bringing over 15 years of Human Resources leadership and recruiting experience across diverse disciplines. Known for his innovative recruiting strategies and best practices, Pernell has successfully led multiple HR initiatives, including talent acquisition, performance management, Diversity, Equity & Inclusion, and HRIS systems implementations. Pernell is an active community leader, serving on the Board of Directors at the Intercultural Senior Center.

    Mark Booker

    Mark Booker co-founded GoodGames and has a degree in Communications with a minor in Psychology. That has allowed him to design sessions using social gamification and interactive elements as he has an uncanny ability to turn any content or subject material into an experience participants will never forget. With over 20 years of facilitation experience, Mark works with clients (like The World Bank, World Economic Forum, International Monetary Fund) to ensure their strategic objectives are met by creating experiences around learning and education goals or adapting existing presentations or curriculum to inject creativity and immersive experiences.

    Dr. Laura Brooks Dueland

    Dr. Laura Brooks Dueland earned her doctorate in Industrial Organizational Psychology with a focus in DEI from the University of Nebraska at Omaha. Laura co-founded Inclusion Analytics where she leads projects including compensation studies, data program evaluations, and other data-driven solutions. The Inclusion Analytics team developed DEI assessments targeting organizational policies and employee perceptions that have been used by more than 100 companies across industries and sectors.

    Dr. Jaketra Bryant

    Dr. Jaketra Bryant: globally recognized Diversity Strategic Leadership Coach, Consultant, and Licensed Professional Counselor. Empowers individuals through personal transformations, featured in Upscale Magazine and Weightlessdate.com. Radio host, author, and trainer, inspiring compassion across races and genders. Personalized programs address personal and business growth, described as life-changing by clients.

    Aimee Gibson

    Aimee Gibson is a Professional Certified Coach (PCC) and former consulting executive with over 20 years of experience. She is sought after as a talented executive coach, consultant, facilitator, and speaker. Aimee has worked in the public, private and not-for-profit sectors, representing a wide range of industries. She works internationally and for small and large local and geographically dispersed companies. Aimee is grounded in her values of integrity, learning and growth, inclusivity, well-being, and collaboration.

    Marisa Hattab

    Marisa Hattab dedicates herself to transforming workforce culture and refining employee engagement strategies. Leading Marisa Hattab LLC, she specializes in fostering dynamic team dynamics, boosting workplace morale, and guiding purposeful leadership. With over eight years of expertise spanning nonprofit and corporate sectors, Marisa delivers tailored services, including dynamic training, conflict management, and leadership assessments. With a proven track record impacting over 10,000 individuals and 50+ organizations, she champions lasting transformations, promoting collaboration and sustainable success.

    Matthew Huston

    Matthew Huston (he/him/his) is a proud queer, Chicago-based employee development and DEIB professional. He obtained his Bachelor’s degree from UW-Madison and his Master’s degree in Organizational Psychology from the University of Hartford. He facilitates with a national DEIB club and has spoken on various soft skills, including communication, career development, burnout, and bias, all through a DEIB lens. He is a forever learner, striving to meet people where they are and empowering them to excel.

    Ralph Kellogg

    Ralph Kellogg is a passionate advocate for workplace mental health, and a senior executive in the human resources field. With a focus on fostering well-being within organizations, Ralph brings extensive experience and expertise to the forefront of organizational development. Ralph’s commitment to promoting a supportive and inclusive work environment has earned him recognition as a leader in the human resources field, driving positive change and empowering individuals to thrive professionally and personally.

    Demi Kulper

    Demi Kulper is a dedicated advocate for empowering young leaders and fostering inclusive environments. In her role as the Social Impact and Communications Coordinator at Girl Scouts Spirit of Nebraska, Demi passionately shares Girl Scout stories while spearheading Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion initiatives. Her commitment to creating equitable spaces is reflected in her daily work where she strives to ensure every voice is heard and valued.

    Demi’s dedication to DEI extends beyond her professional endeavors. She actively supports LGBTQIA+ communities and champions mental health advocacy. As the Vice President of the Board of Directors of OutNebraska, a member of Big Feels Lab Advisory Board, and member of the Mayor’s LGBTQ+ Advisory Board , Demi works tirelessly to promote inclusivity and provide resources for marginalized groups. Additionally, she brings joy and unity to her community as a member of the River City Mixed Chorus, Omaha’s LGBTQ+ chorus. Demi has also served on the CODE Conference Planning Committee for two years and has found the experience to be profoundly impactful in enhancing her leadership skills. 

    Her multifaceted approach to advocacy is grounded in a deep belief that everyone deserves a space where they can thrive. Demi’s efforts in promoting DEI are not just about creating opportunities but also about building lasting relationships and nurturing a sense of belonging.

    AJ Locashio

    AJ Locashio (she/they) isn’t your average consultant. This board-certified coach and “intersectional octopus” tackles diversity with a gamer’s wit and a military spouse’s resilience. Multiply neurodivergent (ND), including migraines and C-PTSD, AJ is a lived-experience and professional neurodiversity expert. From the queer, ND coder to the custodian with whiplash, she’ll create a workplace where everyone belongs. Buckle up, professionals!—AJ will disrupt the status quo with the same fireballs they bring to D&D!

    Gibril Mansaray

    Gibril Mansaray, the seasoned Manager of Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Belonging at Signature Performance, brings over a decade of expertise in fostering inclusive environments. He founded G.S. Mansaray and Associates, focusing on organizational and career development. In 2019, Gibril established the PK Memorial Foundation to enhance educational opportunities in Sierra Leone. He is married to Maurisa, a Method Development Specialist and accomplished classical cellist. Together, they are proud parents to their sons, Moses and Maaz.

    Devin Owens

    Devin is a seasoned marketing consultant, entrepreneur, and racial equity leader with broad experience across the education, nonprofit, technology, financial, and healthcare sectors. In 2018, she founded Less the Agency, aiding more than 75 global clients before its 2023 sunset. She is currently pursuing a Master’s in Organizational Leadership at Creighton University, where she also serves as a Director of Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion. She is passionate about integrating AI into everyday life.

    Sarah Phelps

    Sarah Phelps is the Director of Operations & Programs at OutNebraska and brings a strategic, inclusive, and innovative approach to programming and facilitation.   Sarah’s private practice consults on equitable and strategic board management and mission activation. She is a co-founder of Leaders for Equity, Allyship and Diversity, facilitator for Inclusive Communities, speaker for Hummingbird Humanity, and Board President of UmbrellaUS and Rainbow Rest Stop.

    Sharnelle Shelton

    Sharnelle Shelton, a proud mother and devoted community advocate. She understands the challenges faced by children with opportunity gaps.  Her heart beats for community empowerment. Her involvement “Minorities Owning Businesses” is a commitment to uplifting small enterprises. In her role at Mom Power she’s a connector, providing tools and resources. At Omaha Chamber of Commerce, she’s not just a mentor she’s a guide for local talent, investing in our future.

    Mynesha Spencer

    Mynesha is an Inclusion Strategist who works to support internal human relation experiences and outcomes and external equity outcomes for corporations and organizations. Mynesha believes that “philanthropic institutions will never be better than the individuals who manage them” and is driven to sustain a harmonious internal and external human-relations structure. She is devoted to the advancement of concepts, practices, and policies that impact positive change and serves to remind us all to introspectively consider, “Who are we excluding?” Mynesha helps structure the way in which organizations respond to this question through equity auditing, cultural competency training facilitation, and professional development coaching.

    Megan Tamisiea

    Megan Tamisiea’s passion is helping people to continue to grow and develop in their career. She strives to always meet people where they are and grow from there. Her 10+ years of Talent Development, DEI, and Recruiting experience have focused on eCommerce and healthcare organizations from Chicago to Los Angeles to Omaha. She is currently the Manager of Talent and Organizational Development at Nebraska Methodist Health System.

    Christopher Thomas

    Christopher Thomas is a Program Manager of Education and Learning in the Office of Equity and Diversity at Children’s Mercy Hospital Kansas City. In their role, Christopher designs learning and development opportunities for hospital staff and community partners related to diversity, equity, and inclusion. Prior to their time at Children’s Mercy, Christopher worked as a college professor teaching and conducting research on intercultural communication, conflict management, and inclusive organizational development.

    Kara Warner

    With over a decade of experience in educating on the social constructs of microaggressions, Kara Warner holds a track record of driving meaningful change.  Holding a BA in Psychology and Black Studies from the University of Nebraska at Omaha, Kara brings a unique blend of academic knowledge and real-world expertise.   Kara has served as a visiting instructor at the University of Nebraska at Omaha, and is committed to fostering inclusive environments through education.

    Personal Space Stickers

    To notify others of your comfort level, stickers will be available in our Registration space for your name badges.

    Colors include:

    • Green – I’m okay with high-fives & handshakes.

    • Red – Hi, I’m keeping my distance.
    Pronoun Stickers

    Pronoun stickers are a great way to assist with introductions and prevent mis-gendering. Add personal pronouns to your name badge found in the Registration space. Stickers include: He/Him/His, She/Her/Hers, and They/Them/Theirs and blank ones for personalized pronouns.

    Traveling to the CHI Health Center by public transit? A variety of routes can get you there:

    • Coming from West Omaha? Use our free Park + Ride lot at Westroads (102nd & Nicholas) and catch ORBT. The buses come every 10 minutes! Get off the bus at 10th & Douglas for a quick walk down 10th Street to CHI.
    • Coming from South Omaha? Route 13 can get you to 13th & Cass – just walk over to 10th Street. Route 13 buses arrive every 15 minutes.
    • Coming from North Omaha? Route 18 drops off at 11th & Farnam – you’ll just need to take Farnam to 10th, and then north to CHI.

    Riders can plan their trip using MyRide OMA, which is available as a smartphone app or as a website – just enter your starting point and destination, and then follow the directions. Buses can even be tracked in real-time! Find details for fares and more at ometro.com.

    Quiet & Meditation Room

    This space is intended to be free from sensory input and used for prayer, meditation, or quiet time. We ask that you please avoid cell phone and/or device usage in this area. The Quiet & Meditation Room will be located across from our Info Hub.

    Service Animals

    Service Animals are welcome. Service Animals are permitted to accompany persons with disabilities in all areas of CHI Health Center facilities. Service animals should be controlled with a leash, harness, voice, signals, or other effective means. Please see Info Hub for additional support.

    Volunteers

    Volunteers will be greeting and directing attendees as they arrive for The Conference. They will also be available at breakout rooms, the ballroom, and designated areas throughout The Conference.
